For the wealthiest state in the wealthiest nation in the world, our spending on health care outcomes is abysmal. Many Californians still lack health insurance and, even when they do have health insurance, they cannot afford the egregious copays, predatory fees and costly drugs. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that employment-based health care does not work.
