After Sandy Hook ten years ago, we said never again. Since then, there have been 3,865 mass shootings. It is far too easy for dangerous individuals to obtain firearms with the primary objective to harm others. The time to act is long overdue. Every day we don’t act, more lives are cut short. We need to act now. As your Assemblymember, I pledge to continue to work tirelessly to pass critically needed measures to end gun violence. We must act now. The gun violence must end. Join me in our fight for sensible gun laws:
We must address the skyrocketing cost of housing and the growing homelessness crisis on our streets. As your Assemblymember, I’m working to:
The greatest tool of socioeconomic mobility should be education. However, California remains subpar in the nation for K-12 per-pupil spending and still has enormous barriers to accessing higher education. If Silicon Valley is going to continue to be the global hub of innovation, our state needs to have a world-class educational system to produce the next generation of leaders and thinkers. As your Assemblymember, I’m working to:
For the wealthiest state in the wealthiest nation in the world, our spending on health care outcomes is abysmal. Many Californians still lack health insurance and, even when they do have health insurance, they cannot afford the egregious copays, predatory fees and costly drugs. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that employment-based health care does not work. Only by guaranteeing health care for all can we ensure the physical and mental health of our people as well as our economy. As your Assemblymember, I’m working on:
Our government works best when more people are at the table, making decisions. We need to take out the undue influence of special interests and dark money in policy-making. Only by empowering everyday Californians and matching the power of special interests can we make a democracy that works for everyone. As your Assemblymember, I’m working to:
Climate change is an existential threat to all of us. We’ve seen it in California’s droughts and destructive fires. We are on the precipice of a climate disaster. Even though California has remained a leader in mitigating climate change, we must do more to reduce carbon emissions and pollution. As your Assemblymember, I’m working on:
We have to make it easier for people to get to work or school without sitting in hours of traffic or driving a single-occupancy private vehicle. We need convenient, reliable public transportation options with less crowding and rush hour headaches. As your Assemblymember, I’m working on achieving:
“Abortion rights are under direct attack. Here in California, we are fighting back. As your Assemblymember, I am helping lead the effort to enshrine a woman’s right to choose in the state constitution, so there’s no doubt about the right to an abortion in this state. I will continue to fight for more funding for women’s reproductive health services and for healthcare for all, so everyone has the medical care they need.Join me in the fight to protect the right to choose and the fight for universal health care.” - Assemblymember Alex Lee

Our government works best when more people are at the table, making decisions. When only a fraction of our society participates in our democracy, we are not making the best long term decisions for California. We need to take out the undue influence of special interests and dark money in policy-making. Only by empowering everyday Californians and matching the power of special interests can we make a democracy that works for everyone

We are only as strong as the most vulnerable in our society. As someone who belongs to multiple, marginalized identities I personally will fight for the rights of our communities and ensure we have fair, equitable chances to succeed in education, housing, employment, and our democracy. A strong equity lens is needed in policy making to uplift Californians who are from communities of color, LGBTQIA+, unhoused, differently abled, and economically exploited.

Even before our most current recession, our state budget was based on a tax system that was inequitable and unreliable. California’s vast social safety net is almost entirely reliant on the income and sales of ordinary working people — not the massive corporations and millionaires that thrive in our state. To build a sustainable economic future, we need to tax the rich and uplift working families.
