Republican (1854-present) 2022 Sheriff

Lewis G. Evangelidis

Lew Evangelidis was elected Worcester County Sheriff on November 2, 2010. Since taking the oath of office in January 2011, Sheriff Evangelidis has been committed to running the Sheriff’s Department based on the mission of professionalism and public safety. As Worcester County Sheriff, Evangelidis has significantly increased the hiring standards to the highest in the field of corrections in the Commonwealth today and currently is the only Sheriff in Massachusetts that does not accept political contributions from employees or their spouses. A policy that has promoted a more professional department and better working environment for all Worcester County Sheriff’s Office employees.

INMATE COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Department Community Service Program provides cost-free labor by minimum security inmates who have been convicted only of a non-violent offense, are within the final 6 months of their sentence, and have a spotless record while incarcerated. The only cost to the host organization is materials for the project, and lunches for the work crews. Inmates are monitored at all times by an armed Officer, and routinely complete work in many different areas, including: carpentry, demolition, painting, landscaping, snow removal, floor tiling, and much more. We likewise benefit by teaching our inmates a valuable and marketable skill that will reduce recidivism and offer a mean of being productive member of society.
