Senator John J. Cronin was elected to the Senate in 2020 and is running for reelection to represent the communities of Ashby, Clinton, Fitchburg, Groton, Lancaster, Leominster, Lunenburg, Shirley, Townsend, and Westford, which make up the Worcester and Middlesex District.
The revitalization of North Central’s downtowns and main streets is critical to regional economic development. In his first term, Senator Cronin secured $3M for the Fitchburg State University Theater Block, nearly $3M for Leominster’s Monoosnoc Brook, and hundreds of thousands of dollars for targeted housing production on our main streets. John believes vibrant downtowns are key to grow our regional economy and attract young professionals, families, and employers. John will continue to secure public investments that spur private growth and future economic vitality.
Senator Cronin is a statewide leader in efforts to increase access to vocational training and further align programming with regional workforce needs. He is a strong advocate for building partnerships between local industry and comprehensive high schools that provide vocational training programming to students. As a freshman Senator, John successfully advocated for $600,000 to expand Innovation Pathways programs statewide to address a growing social mobility and opportunity crisis. In his second year in office, John worked to expand funding for these programs to $5 million in the fiscal year 2023 budget.
Senator Cronin is committed to eliminate barriers to access high quality mental health care.Senator Cronin was a proud champion of the landmark 2022 Mental Health Addressing Barriers to Care (ABC) Act. The bill delivers numerous reforms to ensure equitable access to mental health care and supports the behavioral health workforce in the Commonwealth.
