Byron Donalds grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and he is also the proud son of a hardworking and loving single mother. His mother dedicated her time instilling in him that greatness requires sacrifice, which drives him as a devoted family man and United States Congressman.
Byron is a graduate of Florida State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance and marketing. Byron's career led him to Southwest Florida, where he worked in the banking, finance, and insurance industries. Elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016, Byron represented Hendry County and east Collier County in the State Capitol. During his tenure in the Florida House, Byron served as the PreK-12 Quality Subcommittee Chair during the 2018-2019 Legislative Session and served as the Insurance & Banking Subcommittee's Chairman 2019-2020 Legislative Session. While serving in the Florida House, primarily focused on elder affairs, criminal justice reform, and ensuring that each child has access to a world-class education.
As a Member of Congress, I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and by doing so, that means it is my duty and obligation to protect all areas of our treasured founding document. Contrary to what some of my colleagues in Congress believe, that does not mean I get to pick and choose which Amendments and what rights are worth defending. The 2nd Amendment, your right as an American to bear arms, is equally as important as the entirety of the Bill of Rights.
I have proudly stood against misguided gun control legislation that infringes upon your rights throughout my public service career. As your representative, you can rely on me to defend your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. My viewpoint on the 2nd Amendment is simple:
Shall Not Be Infringed, means Shall Not Be Infringed!
As a firm believer in limited federal government, I can not support the imposition of unaffordable and unconstitutional healthcare on the American people. As a nation with the most advanced medical practices and medicine in the modern world, the United States should have a prospering healthcare system, not be inundated with the failure of Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act is a ruse by the federal government to seize control over the health care and insurance industry, slowly leading the U.S. to a single-payer socialist system.
By providing healthcare tax benefits and incentives to individuals, costs within the healthcare market will substantially decrease. I am a strong supporter of implementing the Commerce Clause, which allows for health insurance to be purchased and used across state lines. This would broaden provider access to millions of Americans and cut bureaucratic red-tape from those that are in need of immediate care. Furthermore, implementing state reciprocity allows for American citizens to seek their own doctors, while simultaneously allowing the free market to prosper and work as intended. These reforms within the healthcare and insurance industry that are patient-based, remove excessive costs, rid the federal government of individual healthcare decisions, and empowers Americans- not politicians in Washington.
Southwest Florida’s waterways serve as the lifeblood of our community and our local economy. As your representative, you have my commitment that I will preserve and protect these precious waterways for generations to follow. I am in support of environmental research and projects that lead to the preservation of our waters. On the other hand, we cannot support legislation that will burden taxpayers and vital industries that create millions of good-paying jobs. Radical policies should not drive environmental policy. The solution should be simple; continue to be a responsible steward of the environment and support American energy jobs.
The Central Everglades Restoration Plan is an excellent example of a commonsense, bipartisan solution that will maintain our water and conserve a vital part of our environment.
Ensuring that each child in America has access to an educational environment that best suits their needs shouldn’t be partisan. School choice overwhelmingly supports and benefits minorities, low-income, and disabled students. I reject the notion that a ZIP code determines a child’s future. The idea of forcing students to remain in perpetually failing schools hinders academic success and restricts educational freedom. Supporting school choice initiatives empowers parents and allows every child to have access to a world-class education.
As a fiscal conservative, I am disturbed by the federal government allowing more than 26 trillion dollars of unfunded liabilities to burden future generations of Americans; all the while, our federal government continues to print and spend money as if it grows on trees.
As record-high inflation rampantly increases, Americans are suffering. Every aspect of our economy is experiencing a significant increase in prices. Whether its at the gas pump, the grocery store, or the airline ticket counter - inflation is a tax on ALL Americans. This Administration's rampant and reckless spending is only contributing to our national debt and causing inflation to rise.
That is why I will work to sponsor and pass a Balanced Budget Amendment, which requires both the House and the Senate to pass a balanced budget annually to regain and restore long-term financial stability in the United States. Our federal budget needs to be completely overhauled, reviewed, evaluated, and approved based on the level of need.
The federal government is long overdue for a federal tax policy that benefits the average American. Until our nation changes how we as a country approach the federal tax code, the federal government will continue to redistribute wealth at an alarmingly high rate, which is a page straight out of the failed European Socialism agenda.
As a fiscal conservative with an extensive background in finance and banking, I support a simplified tax code that will stimulate private sector investment, individual wealth creation, reduce bureaucratic red-tape, and promote job creation.
The brave men and women of our Armed Services dutifully serve our nation with an admirable devotion to defend our freedoms and our beloved country. Our veterans deserve our utmost respect, and they deserve the very best our nation has to offer. Florida's 19th Congressional District is home to many of our nation's heroes, both past and present, and I am forever indebted to their selfless service. As a member of this Congressional body, we must tackle veteran suicide, champion veteran employment opportunities, and ensure every veteran has access to expeditious and quality healthcare. We cannot give in to reckless calls to defund and deplete our military. The world is a dangerous place, and our list of adversaries is not shrinking—we must remain the world's militaristic superpower and ensure our nation has the means to protect and defend itself. We must also realize that America cannot continue to be the world's policeman. For nearly 20 years, Washington politicians have irresponsibly kept our troops overseas with no direction leading to devastating casualties and trillions of taxpayer dollars wasted in a notoriously tumultuous region of the world. We must put an end to endless wars now. |
