I am an animal lover and a proud dog mom, so protecting animals is very important to me. I co-sponsored An Act to protect animals from convicted abusers to make sure that convicted abusers are not allowed to be in possession of an animal or engage in an occupation or volunteer position where they would be working with animals. This bill would prohibit convicted animal abusers from owning or having contact with animals for a reasonable period of time with 5 years minimum for first-time offenders, and 15 years minimum for subsequent offenses. I have also added a provision in another bill to protect pets from those convicted of sexual assault.
