Millions of Americans depend on Social Security for their income because so many people can no longer rely on traditional pensions, and have been unable to save much in a 401(k) or IRA. Millions more contribute to Social Security with every paycheck, earning protection they can count on for retirement, in the event of a career-ending disability, or to support survivors. Social Security has never been a day late nor a dollar short, but given the importance of Social Security to our families, it is critical to continue to protect and strengthen it.
