A first-generation American citizen, Congressman Mike Garcia was a highly decorated United States Naval Officer and businessman before serving in the United States House of Representatives. His superb flying performance earned him the honor of becoming one of the first F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighter pilots in the Navy. While on active duty, Congressman Garcia flew over 30 combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom in the skies above Baghdad, Fallujah, and Tikrit.
Santa Clarita, CA – Cadet Technical Sergeant Matthew Harrison recently received the Air Force Junior ROTC's highest honor the Gold Valor Award. The Award, given to recognize "the most outstanding voluntary acts of self-sacrifice and personal bravery by a cadet involving conspicuous risk of life above and beyond the call of duty," according to the regulations put forth by Air Force Junior ROTC. Harrison is now a senior at Saugus High School. Harrison's heroic actions during the Saugus High School shooting last November earned him the Gold Valor Award.
