STANDING UP TO THE CCP

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a list of human rights abuses as horrific as it is long. As a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, I’ve been working with my colleagues to bring awareness to the threats posed by the CCP, and to develop policy recommendations on how to counter their aggression and influence.

My parents fled from a totalitarian government in North Korea so that their children and grandchildren would grow up free. The CCP wants to oppress its own people and threaten free nations like the United States. As long as I am in Congress, I’m not going to let that happen. Here's what I'm doing to hold them accountable.

  • Serving as a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which is tasked with assessing the threat posed by the CCP and providing recommendations on how to counter their hostility.
  • Introduced the Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, to proactively ensure that the U.S. can supply Taiwan with defense materials in the event of a CCP invasion.
  • Sponsored a proposal to force the CCP to be subject to the same standards as the rest of the world for their unfair trade practices, human rights violations, and environmental abuse.
  • Introduced legislation to prevent CCP meddling in U.S. supply chain.
  • Signed onto a letter asking the Administration to get to the bottom of a CCP-allied corporation purchasing land next to a U.S. military installment.
  • Sent a letter to the president of the International Olympic Committee, highlighting the CCP's human rights abuses and urging them to relocate the 2022 Winter Olympics.
  • Opposed CCP-sponsored Confucius Institutes and urged the Department of Education (DOE) to explore censorship-free alternatives to support the instruction of Mandarin language and Chinese culture, specifically those offered by Taiwan.
