James Baird

Congressman Jim Baird is a lifelong resident of West Central Indiana. He proudly represents Indiana’s 4th Congressional District, which includes 16 counties, and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

Before being elected to Congress, he served eight years as a State Representative in the Indiana General Assembly. During this time, he was a member of the Ways and Means Committee and played an integral role in balancing Indiana’s budget. He is a strong believer in fiscal responsibility and applied the idea of living within our means, helping to keep Indiana a place where Hoosiers can thrive and businesses can grow. He also served on the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, the Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation, the Environmental Affairs Committee, the Statutory Committee on Ethics, the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, where he provided assistance and insight, and authored legislation relating to these areas.

Veterans History

The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress (LOC). VHP’s purpose is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of America’s wartime veterans so future generations may hear directly from them and better understand their selfless service.

My office is helping to facilitate sending veterans' stories to the LOC and will be conducting oral interviews. If you are a veteran and would like to share your oral history, or you live in the 4th Congressional District and would like to help our office interview veterans and collect their stories, please contact Diane Hubbard at diane.hubbard@mail.house.gov or call the Danville District Office at 317-563-5567 for more information.
