A ninth generation Arkansan, French Hill is the 22nd Member of Congress to represent central Arkansas in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected on November 4, 2014, and began his first congressional term in the 114th Congress on January 3, 2015. He won reelection to serve in the 115th, 116th, and 117th sessions of Congress.
In October of 2018, I worked with Dr. Brian Mitchell, an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to award the family of Leroy Johnston medals he earned serving in WWI, but did not receive due to discrimination based on the color of his skin. Because of this, I introduced the World War I Valor Medals Review Act. This bipartisan bill requires the U.S. Department of Defense to review the military records of minority service members of the Armed Forces during WWI to determine if they should be awarded the Medal of Honor. This legislation was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020, which was signed into law by the president on December 20th, 2019. |
