Elaine Alaniz

I was born in the inner city of Houston, Texas, and raised by my mother in a single-parent household. As the oldest of four children, I had to take up the role of caregiver for my three younger siblings while my mother worked full-time. As the sole breadwinner of our household, she always put food on the table and taught us never to give up regardless of our circumstances. I joined the workforce to support my family and myself at a very young age. As a person with mild dyslexia, it only added more challenges and stresses to get through high school and work a full schedule simultaneously.

Overdevelopment And Parking

The demographic in AD54 is culture and diversity-driven. Each area is unique with different needs. The plight in one section of AD54 might be parking issues while facing development projects is the hardship of another. District 54 is underserved; only providing attention to certain parts and neglecting other areas is a disservice to the community. Elaine will tackle these issues by:

  • Reevaluate and take a balanced growth approach in our community's Affordable Housing and development project market
  • Advise agencies to define Affordable Housing, contract term limits, and commit transparency.
  • Implement and revive programs that provide pathways for homeownership (single-family dwellings, condominiums, townhomes, lofts).
  • Launch financial and educational programs that promote and teach budget consciences, savings goals, and debt credit counseling for AD54 residents.
  • Continue to work on traffic enhancements and work closely with Developers and the Department of Transportation to address and resolve growing parking issues throughout the AD54.
  • Use the "General Plan" as a blueprint to assess the rate and the amount of new development in specific sections of AD54 and set realistic goals and objectives with the public input, local organizations, and the Planning Commission.
