Cathy McMorris Rodgers is Eastern Washington’s chief advocate in Congress, serving as the representative for the state’s 5th Congressional District. Since first being elected to the House in 2004, she has earned the trust of her constituents and praise on Capitol Hill for her hard work, conservative principles, bipartisan outreach, and leadership to get results for Eastern Washington. Growing up on an orchard and fruit stand in Kettle Falls, working at her family’s small business, and later becoming a wife and working mom of three, Cathy has lived the American Dream. Now, she works every day to rebuild that dream for our children and grandchildren.
I support policies that empower the private sector – especially small businesses – to create jobs and spur economic growth. Small businesses are responsible for 70% of America’s jobs, and when the government grows, it crowds out growth in the private sector. We need to simplify the tax code, stop burdensome government regulations, promote smart trade deals, reduce government spending, and balance the budget. That will give small business owners the confidence they need to invest, innovate, and expand.
I was proud to lead the way on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was signed into law by President Trump in 2017. This historic legislation overhauled our broken tax code for the first time in over 30 years, and it improved the lives of everyday Americans and their families by creating more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks.
Looking ahead, I will continue to advocate for policies that unleash American innovation and ingenuity, promote free-market principles, and help us win the future in a global economy.
