Cathy McMorris Rodgers is Eastern Washington’s chief advocate in Congress, serving as the representative for the state’s 5th Congressional District. Since first being elected to the House in 2004, she has earned the trust of her constituents and praise on Capitol Hill for her hard work, conservative principles, bipartisan outreach, and leadership to get results for Eastern Washington. Growing up on an orchard and fruit stand in Kettle Falls, working at her family’s small business, and later becoming a wife and working mom of three, Cathy has lived the American Dream. Now, she works every day to rebuild that dream for our children and grandchildren.
I believe we must be good stewards of our natural resources and environment. In Washington State, our environment is vital to our economy. Our natural resources closely support our timber, tourism, recreation, and transportation industries, creating thousands of jobs and fueling our state economy.
As we work together to combat climate change risks, we must play a role in reducing carbon emissions, which is why I have fought for years for the advancement of clean energy solutions like hydropower, nuclear energy, biomass, and hydrogen fuel cells.
However, we must be careful not to restrict federal land to the point that we become dependent on China for our rare earth minerals and other natural resources that we rely on every day. Instead, we must focus on real, sustainable solutions in the United States that allow us to maintain our energy independence and secure a cleaner energy future
