Cathy McMorris Rodgers is Eastern Washington’s chief advocate in Congress, serving as the representative for the state’s 5th Congressional District. Since first being elected to the House in 2004, she has earned the trust of her constituents and praise on Capitol Hill for her hard work, conservative principles, bipartisan outreach, and leadership to get results for Eastern Washington. Big Tech has broken my trust. They’ve failed to promote the battle of ideas and free speech by censoring political viewpoints they disagree with. They also don’t do enough to keep our children safe or address illegal content on their platforms. They have not proven that they can be good and responsible stewards of their platforms.
As Republican Leader on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I am leading a comprehensive package of discussion draft bills to hold Big Tech accountable by improving transparency and content moderation accountability, reforming Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, promoting competition, and preventing illegal and harmful activity on their platforms.
I will continue to lead and encourage Big Tech to embrace American values that support democracy and usher in a new American era of innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity, while also protecting and promoting civil liberties.
