Resiliency, Disaster Relief, and Infrastructure

Across Burlington and Ocean Counties, we still have communities recovering from Superstorm Sandy as well as people recovering from more recent severe weather and flooding. As a result of climate change, we have seen extreme weather events increase over the last few years, and I’m dedicated to ensuring we are prepared to handle the impact. Listening to local leaders and working across the aisle, I’ve helped introduced bills to make our communities more resilient in the face of these storms, and ensure that our families aren’t left behind after the storm passes.

I am particularly proud to have:

  • Worked with the New Jersey delegation to deliver forgiveness of nearly $26 million in outstanding Community Disaster Loans from Superstorm Sandy for local governments and school districts still struggling to recover in New Jersey’s Third District;
  • Authored the Security After Sandy Act to provide forgiveness for homeowners still facing financial clawbacks for duplicate benefits they received through no fault of their own during Superstorm Sandy;
  • Supported reforming the National Flood Insurance Program to protect New Jersey homeowners from unreasonably high rate increases; and
  • Passed legislation into law to make our roads and infrastructure more resilient and mitigate the risk of recurring damage due to extreme weather as a part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
